Basma Salama was born in Egypt, but grew up and completed her secondary education in Vienna, Austria. She is fluent in English, German and Arabic. Basma completed her BSc in Business Management at Warwick University, and graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science with an MSc in International Development.
Her master’s degree focused on complex emergencies, human security and humanitarian interventions. She wrote her master’s thesis on the protection of civilians in UN peacekeeping operations, concentrating on the missions in the DRC and Darfur.
Her field of expertise includes Peacekeeping Operations, R2P and Complex Emergencies. Basma assisted the Conflict Prevention program through research, analysis and general support for the program’s ongoing projects.
