Anton J. Nijssen is the Institute’s Head of Operations. He also works as a consultant in European projects aiming at higher education reform, and develops network activities for HUMANE: Heads of University Management & Administration Network in Europe.
Nijssen studied sociology at the University of Amsterdam, specialising in methods of social research. In the 1980s he accumulated a wide base of knowledge and experience as policy researcher at various institutes. In 1987, he became director of a leading institute for policy research (Research voor Beleid, Leiden), followed by a position as director of SCO Kohnstamm Institute (educational science; University of Amsterdam). On behalf of the University of Amsterdam he also created ‘Liaison Office’, an agency for developing strategies for both research funding and technology transfer.
Over the years he has become an expert in business administration and the management of professional organizations, with a keen interest in the development of operational research policies and knowledge dissemination. Nijssen has worked at The Hague Institute since January 2011.
