As part of the Institute’s Distinguished Speaker Series, The Hague Institute and the Embassy of Georgia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands convened a lecture by Ms. Thea Tsulukiani, Minister of Justice of Georgia, on Changing Georgia in a Changing Europe.
Over the last several years, Georgia has undergone profound changes and reforms, across various spheres: political, economic, and cultural. Among Georgia’s top priorities has been its ongoing effort to build a sustainable “institutional democracy” – a system run by and based on effective and functioning institutions, including a strengthening of the rule of law – with the aim of increasing the opportunity for Georgia to integrate into the European Union. Simultaneously, the European Union has been facing numerous challenges, both internal and external.
It is in this context that Ms. Tsulukiani discussed how Georgia’s ongoing reforms and transition fit into the current and future trajectory of the EU.
