Distinguished Speaker Series: Peter Sutherland

The Distinguished Speaker Series invites prominent experts and practitioners in international affairs to discuss topics and issues related to global governance, the rule of law, and conflict prevention.

800px-Peter-Sutherland-2011On 2 December, the Institute welcomed the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Migration and Development, Peter Sutherland. Mr. Sutherland is one of the world’s leading thinkers on international migration policy, publishing regularly on the economic potential of migration, migrants’ rights and ways to overcome obstacles to the realization of migration’s development.

In addition to his UN role, Mr. Sutherland is the non-executive Chairman of Goldman Sachs International, a former Director General of the World Trade Organization (formerly GATT) and former Attorney General of Ireland. In the wake of the UN’s recent High-Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development, Mr. Sutherland discussed the topic “Migration, Development and Global Justice”.
