Anna Gouwenberg is the Head of Office of the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law. She previously served as Policy Advisor to the President of The Hague Institute for Global Justice.
In that capacity, she contributed to the initial stages of the work of The Hague Institute for Global Justice. She has been involved in the development of the substantive program, the projects and organizational structure of the institute from its inception onwards. In addition to her advisory role, Anna was a member of the management team and supported the Board and Advisory Council of The Hague Institute.
Prior to joining The Hague Institute, Anna worked as a Research Assistant and Project Officer at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at Leiden University. In this capacity, she was responsible for carrying out several research consultancies and research assistance in areas of public international law, human rights, development cooperation, international criminal law and international humanitarian law. Anna has taught Public International Law courses at Leiden University’s law school and she was responsible for the coordination and organization of numerous expert meetings and conferences at the law school.
Anna graduated with a degree in Public International Law from Leiden University. During her studies, she interned with the defence team of Mr. Pandurevic, one of the accused in the Prosecutor v. Popovic et al case. She also interned at the Association of Defence Counsel, practicing before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ADC/ICTY).
