Dr. Richard Ponzio and Dr. Eamon Aloyo participated as invited experts at the 56th Strategy for Peace Conference at Airlie House, Virginia, organized by the Stanley Foundation. Dr. Ponzio participated in the roundtable on Understanding the Future of Transnational Actors, chaired by Mr. Keith Porter, President of the Stanley Foundation.

Discussions centered around how traditional (for example, states and international organizations) and non-traditional (business, civil society, and sub-national governance entities) are working together in innovative ways to address global collective action problems, including in connection with climate change, the current refugee crisis, and addressing the roots causes of deadly armed violence.

Dr. Aloyo participated in the Stanley Foundation roundtable focusing on Nonstate Actors as Perpetrators and Enablers of Mass Atrocity Violence. Ambassador Stephen Rapp, who will join The Hague Institute for Global Justice for six months in 2016 as part of his work as a Sonia and Harry Blumenthal Distinguished Fellow for the Prevention of Genocide in the Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Simon-Skjodt Center, chaired the discussions. Participants focused on nonstate actors and mass atrocity crimes, and the relationship between atrocity prevention and counter-terrorism, preventing violent extremism, and countering violent extremism.
