Water as Leverage in Middle East Peace Process

Dr. Patrick Huntjens published an op-ed in Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant on 7 September. In his op-ed, Dr. Huntjens argued that water diplomacy is a central factor in opening up the difficult peace process between Israel and Palestine. The Netherlands, as a leader in the field of water management, should play an important role in ensuring sustainable and fair water distribution and improving water resources.

“Solutions to the water conflict are at hand, but they require political will, knowledge and creativity. The Netherlands, as mediator and supplier of expertise, can play a crucial role with regard to water.”

– Dr. Patrick Huntjens
