The Future of the Transatlantic Alliance

An increasingly multipolar world, the ramifications of Brexit, the uncertain future of TTIP and the upcoming US presidential election are having an impact on the bedrock of Western security and prosperity: The alliance between the United States and Europe.

To discuss the challenges of these developments the Minister of Defense H.E. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert was the keynote speaker during an interactive discussion organised by the International Network of the VVD and hosted by The Hague Institute for Global Justice.

Minister Hennis-Plasschaert was joined by Mr. Hans van Baalen, MEP, and US election expert and author Mr. Koen Petersen to explore different aspects of this discussion. Introductory remarks were made by Dr. Abi Williams, President of The Hague Institute and Mr. Henry Keizer, Party Chairman of the VVD. The evening was moderated by Ferdi de Lange, Chairman of the VVD International Network.

The International Network is the hub within the Dutch liberal party for discussion, events and thought leadership on Europe, Foreign Affairs and Defense. The network is open to members and non-members. This event signalled the kick-off of the International Network.
