Fundamental Labor Rights and International Codes of Conduct

More and more, companies are committing themselves to international standards regarding workers’ rights through corporate social responsibility provisions in a variety of sources. The Vereniging voor Arbeidsrecht VVAR (Labor Rights Association) and the Social Justice Expertise Center are organizing a conference on Thursday, September 22, 2016, to shed light on recent developments concerning fundamental labor rights embedded in a number of such sources: specifically, the International Labour Organization, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, International Framework Agreements, and the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety. The Accord is an independent, legally binding agreement between brands and trade unions designed to work towards a safe and healthy Bangladeshi Ready-Made Garment Industry.

The conference, which also serves as the annual general meeting of the Vereniging voor Arbeidsrecht, will welcome Professor Paul van der Heijden, Professor Klara Boonstra, Mr Lodewijk de Waal, and Mr Rob Wayss as speakers. The substantive part of the conference will be preceded by:

  • The election of a new member of the board to the VVAR.
  • The approval of the VVAR financial policy of 2015.

RSVP via the website of the Vereniging voor Arbeidsrecht. Additional information about the conference including the full program can also be found there.
